Happy Book Birthday: Aerenden: The Zeiihbu Master by Kristen Taber

I would like to take a moment and wish Kristen Taber a Happy Book Birthday! Today is the official release day of The Zeiihbu Master, book three in the Aerenden series. If you haven't yet had a chance to check out this series, you are missing out! Kristen Taber is a phenomonal writer and story-teller.

Kristen has also been kind enough to take some time to introduce herself, and the world she created in her books:

On the eve of publishing my third book, The Zeiihbu Master (Æerenden #3), I find it impossible not to reflect on what started my indie author journey. I had recently completed the first book in my Ærenden series and submitted it to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. I made it through to the Quarterfinals. A Publisher’s Weekly review came back promising and I realized I had something worth sharing with those who love Fantasy. After a brief attempt at submitting the book and having agents tell me that Epic Fantasy was essentially dead (something I’ve discovered since isn’t really true), I listened to an Indie Author friend’s advice and self-published my books. The process took a year (Quality takes time. For that reason, I’ll never be an author who can whip out a book in a few months), but at the end of it, The Child Returns was released. I suppose that isn’t really where it started though. As with everything that truly matters, this journey started with people. It started with a single scene. Two people—a young man and a young woman—stand across the room from each other. They’re talking when suddenly magic envelops them. Disbelief shadows their eyes and then fear and panic overtake them as they realize their lives have been changed forever. They stand not on the edge of uncertainty, but on a crumbling rock precipice that can only send them into an abyss. They came to me in a dream. I tried to ignore them and their plight, but they kept visiting my sleep until I started wondering why. Why did they fight what they obviously felt for each other? Why were they hiding in a rustic cabin? Why did fear grip them so strongly? Why did they matter? As they told me their stories, I came to understand Meaghan’s history as a child of Earth, lost on a new world and scared of the monsters that chased her. I got to know Nick, the young man who tries his best to reconcile his fear of loss with his job as a stoic body guard. I met their friends, their family, and the people of Ærenden and Zeiihbu who fought against Garon’s rule. I fell in love with them. So now I share those same stories with the world. The journey (both theirs and mine) is not about words on paper. It’s about the world, the people, their history and perseverance. It’s about loss and hope, strength and growth. But ultimately, it’s about what they can teach me, and have taught me as I work with them to write their history. In the end, I hope I’m not the only one who’s able to learn from them.
Thanks so much for sharing, Kristen. As more and more authors are finding themselves self-publishing/Indie publishing, I am thankful that they do not give up after being told no. We would all be sorely missing out on many a good book/novel/story if these authors did not find a way to share their worlds with us.
