Loulou

Long before Carine and her inky black clad mavens clacked their heels across the rain sparkled cobbles, Loulou de la Falaise epitomised the Left Bank boho archetype. Fashion has never been a passion of mine but Anglo -Irish - French Loulou, drew me in during my late teens, not for her credentials as an assistant to Halston or as an YSL 'muse' and later, designer in her own right, but this comment:
For me, a muse is someone who looks glamorous but is quite passive whereas I was very hard working. I worked from 9am to sometimes 9pm or even 2am. I certainly wasn’t passive.

Rizzoli are publishing her life in pictures this November with a forward by Pierre Bergé, Saint Laurent’s partner and interviews with Loulou’s intimates including Betty Catroux, Inès de la Fressange, Diane von Furstenberg, Christian Louboutin, Elsa Peretti, Paloma Picasso, André Leon Talley, and the late, Oscar de la Renta. She passed away much too soon at the age of 63, a little reminder that living well is the best revenge.

Her uncle Mark Birley, founded the legendary private club, Annabel's in London, long ago it was one of my favourite haunts, it's not really a place for snaps but I might try to sneak a quick pic there, next week. Once again - who's bailing me out before I make the long trot to Tyburn?
