Barielle Velvets for Spring 2014

Disclaimer: Press sample. See bottom.

We’ve gotten LOTS of neutral collections lately from brands. I get fatigued on light, work appropriate hues. So initially, when the Barielle Shades Velvets Collection for spring arrived on my doorstep, I was disappointed. More neutrals.

Then, as I swatched them, the collection really came together for me. Unlike other neutral, pale-shade collections, this one has pops of color, too. It’s a dreamy, romantic collection, and I felt a connection between the connection and some of the floral printed clothing I’ve been seeing, like leggings and loose blouses.

So how about some swatches!?

Cream n’ Sugar:

Cream n’ Sugar is probably my least favorite shade, a sheer nude color that would be perfect for a French manicure. This is shown in two coats here. I use a lot of rhinestones and jewels on my ring finger, which leads to staining, so sheer shades like this just never look good on my nails.

Uptown Girl:

Uptown Girl is a sweet light beige creme, shown here in two coats.

My Tan Blazer:

My Tan Blazer is a yellowed beige creme. A camel color. I took to this neutral shade and I like the yellow tones. Shown here in two coats.

Sexy Mood:

Sexy Mood is a muted pink creme. It’s pinker than Zoya Odette, at first I thought it might be a dupe but it’s not. This is shown here in two coats. This Pantone Color of the Year (Radiant Orchid) hue is right on trend.

A Little Exotic:

A Little Exotic is a light brick red creme. I love this shade, it’s a nice pop, a bit more muted than a coral, which would be expected. This shade felt unexpected!

My Week Away:

My Week Away was my favorite of this collection! I had to take a couple sunlight angles to show off that pretty green shimmer floating in the light mauve creme! This is shown here in two coats!

Overall, I could take or leave the more neutral shades of the collection, but I appreciate the pops of color! I actually have an idea for nail art with Cream n’ Sugar, A Little Exotic and My Tan Blazer so hopefully I’ll have time next week to try it out! I know I won’t this week.

The formula on these were pretty good. Two coats and done. I find Barielle to be a reliable formula.

This collection is available online through the Barielle site for $8 a piece. Shades by Barielle nail polishes are Five Free (no formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate, camphor or formaldehyde-resin).

So what do you think? Does this collection appeal to you at all? Any certain color stand out? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
