BeautyJudy Covering Cosmoprof and What’s in My Travel Makeup Bag?

Disclaimer: Some previous samples. See bottom.

Last year’s show floor

Every summer, hundreds of the industry’s best and up-and-coming brands get together at Cosmoprof North America, a forum for the beauty industry in the U.S. where attendees and exhibitors can network, share new and upcoming products and cultivate new business relationships.

Cosmoprof starts THIS WEEKEND at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas (July 13-15) and I’m heading out there tomorrow!

If you’ve followed any of my coverage from previous years, you know I’m going to be sharing with you immediately following the show – and in the weeks after – all about new products in makeup, nails, skincare and hair care. That includes upcoming nail polish collections, new launches from beloved brands and products from brands that we haven’t even heard of yet!

I’m also attending events after the show closes most nights, including an event where I’ll get to meet a TON of hot, hip indie nail polish makers, e-tailers and nail art makers – I can’t wait to share everything with you.

Speaking of which, I’ll be sharing via my social media channels before I blog about them – don’t miss out!

So every year, I struggle with one big question. What makeup do I bring?! Here’s the link to last year’s makeup bag, and this is 2012′s makeup bag…Every year I make it my goal to bring less makeup than the year before. I’m not sure I succeed…ever!

This year, I thought I conservatively packed my makeup, based on the outfits I packed. Well, a few days after I initially packed my makeup, I was inspired by Jeanie from Midnight Manicures to take it all out, and pair it again with my outfits to make sure it was as efficient as I thought. How’d I do? Check it out.

The one area I succeeded was to cut down on how many face products I will bring! However, after repacking, I was able to eliminate one more blush. Here’s before:

And here’s what I’m actually bringing:

I usually bring more than one foundation but this year I’m just taking my staple foundation combo from IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC Cream and Bye Bye Redness. I’m toting along a MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Stereo Rose, a blush/bronzer from Ofra Cosmetics, and an indie pink blushes. I’m also bringing NYX Cosmetics HD Finishing Powder to help my makeup go from day to night. I don’t use it all the time so here’s hoping I don’t have some kind of Angelina Jolie makeup artist malfunction with it!!

I initially packed these makeup palettes:

And these eyeliners:

But after pairing everything, I ended up eliminating a bunch of stuff. It all fits in one picture:

I want a combination of neutral and brights, so I combined two of my Ofra palettes, and added in my Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and Lime Crime Aquataenia.

I’m bringing a small rainbow of hues from Stila, Urban Decay, Lime Crime, Jesse’s Girl, Ardency Inn, L’Oreal and Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics. Also in this pic? Two Star Powder highlighters from Make Up For Ever.

My lips were tough to narrow down, too. Here’s what I started with:

And here’s where I landed:

I landed on a mix of neutrals, bright pink, red, and purple with Kryolan, Kat Von D, Jesse’s Girl, MAC, Ardency Inn, OCC, NYX, Illamasqua and of course, glitter lips from Violet Voss.

Here’s the original travel bag:

And here’s how it actually looks:

It’s so much less cramped!

I’m using one of my Zuca pouches that I’ve gotten from The Makeup Show NYC. I LOVE these – Zuca Makeup Cases are awesome pro products for makeup artists, and this pouch in particular is part of the carry-all system, designed to easily slide in and out of the makeup artists’ kit. These bags have a handle, and zip all around. I love that it’s see-through so I can see what’s going on inside!

The plastic baggie is my carry-on quart-sized bag for the airplane. I won’t be checking my makeup at all – it’s going on my carry-on!

I usually pack nail polish so I can change my polish every night. This year, I’ve decided against that. I love my Gelish kit, and I’m going to give myself a Gelish manicure at home before I head out to Vegas. It will last me for the duration of my trip and I won’t have to worry!

Missing from my travel bag in these pics are items that I forgot about that are packed in my checked bag; my CoverGirl Flamed Out Mascara in Brown/Black, my Lush Cosmetics Skin Tint. I also took photos before I sat down and cleaned all my brushes, and also missing are other tools/accessories like a pencil sharpener and eyelash curler!

So what do you think? Are you a heavy makeup traveler or light?!
