J. Cat Beauty Wonder Lip Paints

Disclaimer: Press sample. See below.

J. Cat Beauty has launched Wonder Lip Paints, which I discovered last month while attending Cosmoprof North America Las Vegas!

Of the six Wonder Lip Paints I received to review, the first thing I noticed was the Alice in Wonderland-style naming system, like “Much Mucher,” and “Wonderland.” Alice in Wonderland is a very colorful movie, and I love what they did here with the naming!

As I wore these, I noticed something funny; two were labeled Caterpillar Smoke!

I went on the brand website and discovered that the bright red is actually called 2nd Impossible Thing! So even though when I shared swatches on Instagram they were both Caterpillar Smoke (I totally didn’t catch it before!), I corrected that here!

Also, I know what you’re thinking. Are these Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar dupes? Well, they both have peppermint oil in their formula, and, of course, the tubes are dupes. But before I get into the review, check out some lip swatches!

Heartodocious:

Heartadocious is a pretty, watermelon pink.

Queen of Harts:

Queen of Harts is a red wine hue. This is a bit stark for my skin tone, but at the same time, I loved it.

Much Mucher:

Much Mucher is a pretty canteloupe color, it’s daring in its own way!

Caterpillar Smoke:

Caterpillar Smoke is a nice pink-purple. This is one of my favorites.

2nd Impossible Thing:

2nd Impossible Thing is a nice red with some pink undertones. I liked this shade.

Wonderland:

Wonderland – this light, bright blue is definitely not my shade! I hope the interwebs are kind, lol! I’ll use this to mix with some of the other colors to create custom looks!

Some tips and observations about the Wonder Lip Paints:

  • Use a lip brush to apply them.
  • Probably not the smartest thing, but I squeeze out the first bit – it’s diluted and not as pigmented
  • Use with an anti-feathering lip pencil. Because they feather. Badly
  • The peppermint oil is nice, I love the scent
  • These seem more slick than an OCC Lip Tar, and aren’t as long-lasting
  • Some do last a little longer because they stain, like Queen of Harts
  • A little bit goes a long way, especially with Queen of Harts and 2nd Impossible Thing

The Wonder Lip Paints come in 18 colors, and can be purchased on the J. Cat Beauty website here for $4.99 a piece. If you want to experiment with color, these are a cheaper way to do it than some of the colorful green and blue lippies available recently. They’d also be great for mixing to achieve custom colors, which is also similar in concept to the OCC Lip Tars.

I’m not sure if I’ll purchase any more of these. I am curious about a few of the other shades – Ches Desire Cat shade, Always Late, Rabbit! and Curiouser, but again, I’m just not sure. I probably would buy them if I saw them in person but I don’t think I’d order them online.

Have you tried the Wonder Lip Paints? What do you think?
