The First Law of Kipple

Jag var på en sån häftig utställning tidigare i veckan, och den slutar imorgon (pågår bara under designfestivalen) så skynda om ni vill se! The First Law of Kipple tar sitt namn från Philip K. Dicks (avgudar honom, fantastisk sci-fi-författare) teori om kipple, useless objects: ”No one can win against kipple, he said, except temporarily and maybe in one spot.” Fotografen Dan Tobin Smith har samlat en massa grejor från second hand-affärer och loppmarknader och sedan färgkoordinerat dem.

Väldigt visuellt slående och det är kul att se hur många random saker de samlat.

Kipplecitatet kommer från romanen ”Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” (titeln!) som inspirerade Blade Runner och som jag nog måste läsa om, det var ett bra tag sedan.

Utställningen är öppen 11-16 imorgon, i Smiths studio på 52c Whitmore Road, N1 5QG. Ta en kaffe på fina Towpath på andra sidan kanalen efter och fundera på hur mycket kipple som håller på att ta över ditt hus för tillfället…

TRANSLATION: Earlier this week I went to Dan Tobin Smith’s fantastic exhibition of kipple, uselesss objects; a term coined by excellent sci-fi writer and one of my favourites, Philip K. Dick. ”No one can win against kipple, he said, except temporarily and maybe in one spot.” The quote comes from novel ”Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?” (the title!) which I’m gonna have to reread now, cause it’s been a while, and which Blade Runner is based on. The exhibition closes after tomorrow, when it’s on from 11 to 4pm, sp hurry if you wanna see it – it really is quite something. Have a coffee at cosy Towpath across the canal afterwards and have a think about how much kipple is taking over your own house at the moment…
