L.A. Girls Pro Primer – High Definition Eyeshadow Primer Review

L.A. Girls is a US brand (obviously?) and their stuff is SO affordable, especially by British standards. For us UK girls, the brand can be found with a slightly mark up on eBay and you can still get a decent deal – I recently ordered these 3 Pro Primer Eyeshadow sticks from eBay for around £7 delivered, so just around £2ish each.

I have a thing for primers – I certainly don’t do a full make up every day for no reason so if I do, I want it to last.

I think this is a very clever idea. A eyeshadow primer in a stick is quick and easy to use, and the shade variations give you a slightly different finish each time.

Do you remember when everyone used to use NYX Milk Jumbo Eye Pencil or MAC Sharkskin as a ‘base’? This is the same principle really.

They say:

Pro Primer stick is a multi-tasking primer that has a light weight, non-sticky formula that sets for long-lasting eye makeup application. The smooth texture glides over eyelids to prep your eyes for a flawless, even application. Pro Primer allows you to wear your favorite eyeshadow all day long while enhancing the pigments in most eyeshadows.

There’s 3 colours – White, Beige and Black.

The crayons are very creamy, smooth and pigmented, almost a touch oily. They aren’t sticky per se, more ‘slick’ like. I don’t mind some stick or tackiness, because I know that will make the powder eyeshadow adhere well, the problem is when it doesn’t set at all and it remains a slick and the powder very quickly creases.

These pencils definitely add some impact to an eyeshadow.

White gives a slightly brighter finish. Nude is quite similar to how the colour applies to the skin, I would say it dulls the colour a bit. Black adds a smoky depth to the colour, good for more dramatic colours.

Whilst these pencils definitely add impact and make colours look more pigmented, the problem I have found is that they don’t prevent creasing all day – after a few hours my eyeshadow has definitely settled into my crease, although it’s there for the whole day, the finish of course isn’t as I would like. I would use these pencils if I wanted to wear a colour for a few hours but certainly not if I wanted the colour to last all day.
I got these from eBay – you can buy them individually too for about £1.80 each!
