Planties and other Room Essentials

I’ve always believed creating an amazing space is about the amount of creativity that goes into it—not the amount of money. At my Jungalow, I like to dress up affordable, essential pieces, like a simple white bed, or a basic dresser with vintage and handmade accessories to make the pieces my own. When Target asked me to pick out a few of my favorite pieces from their new RE line, it was easy for me to find a whole bunch of stuff I would love to incorporate in the Jungalow and put my own spin on. The pretty mustard yellow quilt would be the perfect backdrop for my collection of Berber pillows. The geometric patterned pillows would be so cute in Ida’s room. The dresser has these great modern lines (love the mid-century style triangular legs) and I can imagine styling and restyling collections of books, vases, tchotchkies, lamps and artwork on it for days—not to mention we could really use the extra storage.

For me though, it’s not just about looking at each item for what it is, it’s also about seeing potential for even the simplest pieces. The red wire basket– I can imagine it as a planter, or turn it upside down and it could also be a plant stand.

Or take this C-table, it could work bedside, but it could also be used as a little desk that floats around the living room for notebook computers, or to have a snack on. I can even imagine hanging it on the wall to create a hanging shelf/bar situation in the kitchen or bathroom…spice / towel rack? So many ideas for this little guy.

Whether used as-is, or reimagined as something completely original, essential and affordable pieces make a perfect backdrop for the cooky and the jungalicious—and whatever you do, don’t forget to add a healthy dose of planties
