Intro to getting a book deal.

When a person rises towards success, and all of the sudden they have 100K followers on Instagram, a book deal, a product line and mentions in all the blogs and mags, it can feel very enigmatic–like how did that person manage to accomplish that? And yeah, sure, there are a few givens like hard work and dedication, but maybe you’re thinking “I work really hard, and am very dedicated too, but I don’t seem to be reaching my goals…”

Well, when Dabito and I started The Creative Residency it was, in part, because we had learned a lot about things like growing an Instagram following, publishing books, and getting the word out about creative projects…and we wanted a platform to share our knowledge with other creatives as well as gain knowledge from others that inspire us.

Next weekend (10/12), I’m teaching Intro to Getting a Book Deal here in Los Angeles. Before I started my blog I had four books published by Random House and now I’m working on my first solo book that’s being published by Abrams. With these five published books, there were probably about 15 proposals that I wrote that did not make the cut and never turned into an actual book. All of this book proposal writing, and all of these acceptances and rejecttions taught me how to write a book proposal–not just a proposal that would get my project in front of publishers, but a proposal that would get publishers putting in bids for my publications.

If you have ever considered becoming an author, having your art/ideas/recipes/crafts/words published in book form, I really hope you will consider applying to join me in the seminar next weekend. You will actually be leaving the seminar with a book proposal in hand, which is one of those things that will be a total game changer, promise. You can also get 15% off tuition fees with code GETPUBLISHED. There. Now you have no more excuses.
