The Start of My Invisalign Journey with OSD

And so I've started on my Invisalign journey!

I've updated previously on my Neuromuscular Therapy (read post one & two) at Orchard Scotts Dental and am happy to have (sort of) completed that part. So now I'm not wearing my Orthotic (specially for Neuromuscular Therapy) and started wearing aligners – time to get those teeth straightened!

Just in case you are wondering what's invisalign all about, it's basically a modern approach to straighten your teeth, using a custom-made series of aligners created specially for you. Process is simple as well, you will just pop in a new set of aligners approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. The aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist or orthodontist plans out for you. Invisalign works in a similar way as to braces, but the best part is, there are no metal brackets nor wires and you are just wearing invisible plastic over your teeth! Most people won't even know you're straightening your teeth until you've done so!

To me, our eyes and teeth (smile) are two of the most important features of our face. Taking time, effort to beautify your eyes as well as having a decent, nice set of teeth will give you a fresh smile and in return, make you look good and full of life. Most people always focus on the eyes but neglect the other areas, especially the teeth/smile. I've friends who look unimaginably different – really good in fact, after fixing their teeth and that's when I realised how important it is to get a nice smile.

Anyway, when it comes to treatments like this – where it's a permanent change, I always believe in looking for trustable, reputable places/people and after reading countless of reviews etc, I decided to look for Dr Ronnie Yap at Orchard Scotts Dental. And so far, the sessions were good and I've seen great progression – can't wait to see the final result! ;D

I'm thankful that my upper row of teeth is decently alright, but I don't exactly have a straight lower set so I thought I should get the teeth fixed. Invisalign includes having attachments – just in case you are wondering what are those little bumps (below) on my teeth. Based on the makers of Invisalign, it is learned that some tooth movements would not occur with just the plastic aligner pushing on the teeth. Hence, the designed “attachments” are placed on the teeth in a strategic position and a specific design to move that tooth in the direction that was treatment planned by the doctor. Don't worry! These are removed at the end of the aligner therapy very easily with a polishing tool and no damage is done to the teeth.

Here's how it is like to be wearing the aligners!

Without attachments.

With attachments – pardon my cracked lips.

My request was to push in my two front teeth so that it looks less bunnyish, and to straighten my bottom row of teeth. And whee! I've just received my first 4 sets of aligners, each set to be changed every two weeks. Will be updating my progress here on the blog constantly ;)
