What happens when you take a native New Yorker out of New York? The quest for the perfect slice begins. Talk to any transplant, and you’ll hear the same sad song about how it’s impossible to find good pizza.
I used to sing that song, until I opened my eyes to the flavors I have grown to love here in California. It may have taken me 14 years (gosh, has it really been that long since we moved here?), but I can finally put my quest for a simple cheese pizza to rest. I’ve moved on…and you guys, I think this is actually…better.
When the folks at Stonefire Authentic Flatbreads approached me about being their ambassador in San Francisco on their cross-country Stonefire Food Truck Tour, I was super excited! I couldn’t wait to develop a recipe that would bring my love for East Coast pizza and marry it with the flavors I have grown to adore here on the West Coast. My beloved figs immediately came to mind, and I was dreaming of all kinds of sweet and savory ways to make it shine using Stonefire’s Italian Artisan Pizza Crust.
