New Year’s Wisdom

I honestly feel like I was just publishing the New Year’s Wisdom post for 2013 about three days ago, but I know it has been a full year. 2013 started out in Vienna with spiced wine and smiling faces waltzing in the freezing cold, and ended with a Homeland marathon and much champagne. Very different but equally happy days. And in between there were moments I could happily relive forever, and days/weeks/months I would like to say “good riddance” to. While flipping the double bird just for good measure.

An optimist would call it a “well rounded” year. I would simply refer to it as a year that had me repeating Liz Taylor’s quote nearly every day like a mantra: “Pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick, and pull yourself together”. I’ll tell you right now, there are very few instances in which that quote is not useful. Something about those words will ring true and appropriate whether you are waking up from an amazing night at the theatre in London, or hanging up the phone after unwelcome news.

I’m not making any resolutions for 2014 (do we really ever stick to these things? anyone?), but I am making “go for it” my motto. Go for it and hang in there. We’re starting this New Year with roast duck and chasing puppies through the snow, I’ve no idea how we’ll be ending it, and I can’t wait to see what the days in between will bring.

I hope the words above speak to you and inspire you to make 2014 the best year yet, and when in doubt just think back on the wise words of Ms. Taylor. Happy New Year everyone!
