{ Gardens Of Whimsy }

We’ve had some amazing conversations around here lately, exploring ideas about both sustainable and timeless style. We never want to lose our sense of joy and whimsy around getting dressed (because you know we love dressing up!), but we do believe it is important to invest wisely, eschewing fast fashion for clothes that are properly made and designed to last ~ both in silhouette and intrinsic structure. Buying better allows us to buy a lot less. Cheap thrills don’t have a long lifespan.

Few women have more vested authority on the topic of classic, well-made clothes than Carolina Herrera. She essentially owns the combination of white shirt chic, full skirt, having made it both a personal uniform and a cornerstone of her company. She first appeared on the International Best Dressed List in 1972, and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 1980. That same year, her friend Diana Vreeland suggested she design a clothing line ~ and she’s been defining our understanding of elegance ever since.

This spring, Carolina Herrera has re-released six of her favorite archive prints, in a well-edited range of capricious cotton separates. We spent a sunny afternoon on her studio’s ivy-walled terrace, test-driving a few of our favorites…
