Mystic Braves x Saint Laurent

Hedi Slimane is the master of fusing fashion with music, his way to accentuate rock and roll and youth culture with his designs is indisputable. His spring 2015 Psych Rock Collection for Saint Laurent proves this once more. The collection will be part of the visual element of his new book and exhibition ‘Sonic’.

Again Hedi Slimane demonstrates that he has the finger on the pulse of what is up-and-coming right now and so his designs focus on psych rock’s new rising. “Psych Rock, short for psychedelic rock, is a style of rock music that is inspired or influenced by psychedelic culture and attempts to replicate and enhance the mind-altering experiences of psychedelic drugs. It often uses new recording techniques and effects and draws on non-Western sources such as the ragas and drones of Indian music. “(Wikipedia)

The French designer is clearly targeting the hip festival crowd with his high-fashion take on 1967’s Summer of Love. The collection features ponchos and capes embroidered with crystals and metallic studs teamed up with skinny jeans, wide brimmed hats and the occasional tassels, making the designs a suitable choice for road trips to the Mexican desert.

Slimane picked LA based psych band Mystic Braves to soundtrack the presentation with their track ‘Bright Day Haze’, who’s latest album is suitably called ‘Desert Island’. The band of course fit Saint Laurent’s latest collection to a toe, sporting vintage wardrobes, shaggy haircuts, and flower-child sensibilities; the quintet certainly took influence from the dreamy and psychedelic haze of the 60s.
