Happy Friday, lovely friends! I’m really excited to tell you about one of my favorite essential oils from the 9 Everyday Oils kit that I use literally every day. Actually, I have a lot of favorites, but today I’m telling you why I love lemon essential oil!
Citrus essential oils are pressed from the rinds of citrus fruit – orange, lemon, tangerine, lime etc. I drink lemon in my water almost every day. It tastes delicious and is incredible for detoxing. I think it is energizing too…at least for me!
Research by Jean Valnet, MD showed that vaporized {diffused} lemon oil can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacllli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria. I mean, c’mon. How stinkin’ amazing is that?!
Here are 10 Amazing Uses for Lemon Essential Oil that I think you will love!
1. Cleanse skin, reduces wrinkles and combat acne.
2. Improve mental accuracy and concentration when diffused
3. Help heal ear infections {around ears and down neck, not in ears}
4. Improve memory {mommy-brain, anyone?}
5. Remove sticky residues {always test in a small area first.}
6. Help detoxify the body when added to drinking water
7. Freshen the air while vacuuming by adding a cotton ball with lemon on it to your vacuum bag.
8. Sanitize and disinfect everything in sight with lemon oil and/or lemon water.
9. Use as substitute for lemon juice in cooking. I love adding lemon oil to my guacamole! Yum!
10. Add to DIY Sugar Scrubs for invigorating skin and getting rid of cellulite.
One word of caution - Avoid applying to skin that will be exposed to sunlight or UV light within 24 hours. Citrus oils are photosensitive which means that skin is more sensitive to burn. I typically use lemon on our bodies at night just to be safe.
Have a fabulous day, my friends!
xoxo
