Kiss My Arts

By James Murphy.

MS is the most common neurological disease affecting young Australian adults.
As yet there is no cure.
Over 23,000 Australians have MS and most people are diagnosed between the ages of 20 to 40.
MS affects three times as many women as men.

One of those 17,250 women in Australia is Clare, James’ partner.
Clare was diagnosed 18 months ago after a very sustained period of vertigo and numbness from the waist down.

MS is the result of damage to myelin – a protective sheath surrounding nerve fibres
of the central nervous system. When myelin is damaged this interferes with messages between
the brain and other parts of the body.

The symptoms of MS are different for each person.
Sometimes they even vary within the same person.
For everyone with MS it makes life unpredictable.

Kiss My Arts is artists in crime and in time, James Murphy and Clare Weeks.
When Clare was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, James went every day to the hospital
with clean socks and undies, deodorant, her beloved pillow and a kiss.

James and Clare plan to take the photo challenge every day during May and to spell out the words

‘Kiss Goodbye to Multiple Sclerosis x’

which will be shared on the KGTMS Facebook page.
Some of our daily letters are featured here. Currently we are up to…

Clare and James are also organising and exhibition, Kiss My Arts.
The exhibition will feature established and emerging artists from the Newcastle area.
All artworks will be for sale with a portion of each sale going to MS Australia.
The exhibition will be held on the 1st and 2nd June at the Finite Gallery
55 Caves Beach Rd, Caves Beach, opening at 2pm.

All donations made on the Kiss Goodbye to MS website go towards preventing and treating
the symptoms of multiple sclerosis, as well as providing support and services for people with MS.
Australian scientists are optimistic that a cure can be found and it is your support that will make this happen.

If you’d like to help Clare and James in their challenge,
visit their fundraising page and show your support and help us
to KISS GOODBYE TO MS once and for all.
