Mountains or Sea?

Being a lover of nature (and especially mountains) I have a confession
- for most of my life I have not included the ocean on my list of “preferred places”.

That was until ….

A few years back I was chatting with a good friend who spends much of his
life immersed in the ocean. As we traded stories from land and from sea I
realised there were many common threads. Adventure and soulful experiences
abounded in both. I realised we were speaking the same language, just the
locations were different.

My interest was kindled and I have since invested time and energy into exploring
what the ocean is really about.

To enter the sea at this stage in life, allows me to experience Mother Nature
through brand new eyes. Child like again, enthusiastic, excited, scared, all in the
one moment.

It’s all there for me, from the ominous power to tranquil settings, revitalising
and energising. Creatures large and small (some friendly, some not so), and
everything presented in a range of colours and combinations that defies the
imagination.

As in the mountains, there were lessons to be learned, lessons of respect
and humility delivered in a way that only Mother Nature can, with a firm but
nurturing hand. This certainly keeps one present!

Strolling along the beach recently I came to realise what a remarkable threshold
the shoreline is – the meeting point between land and ocean.

So, mountains or sea?
Love them both.
