TOMMY TON x STYLE.COM

Perspective.

This post could have justifiably also been titled as "things worth celebrating", because Tommy Ton and his work, as delivered to the masses of the fashion obsessed through style.com in these past 5 years, is something worth celebrating.
It's worth celebrating for three reasons.

Reason number one. Tommy Ton and his work are important milestones for the direction in which the fashion industry has propagated towards in this past decade. Tommy Ton as well as others who are celebrated for their work on the sidewalks, such as Scott Schuman and the Stockholm Street Style duo - Caroline Blomst and Daniel Troyse, have given us a different perspective of style and fashion. The focus has shifted from what appears on the catwalk to what happens on the street. And what happens on the street is much more real, more accessible, more human yet with a high dose of style and fashion sense. These street style images have offered true inspiration and have defined trends much more than what catwalk imagery and top-of-the-tier glossy editorials ever could. Their work also celebrates individual style rather than trends, emphasizing something more sustainable rather than something more seasonal.

Reason number two. Tommy Ton knows how to capture details, at the right time, at the right place. He communicates style and fashion via route of what he captures through the lens. He delivers pictures which you just want to pin, repin, post and repost, even 5 years later. He has a perspective that is unique and has managed to make the details matter.

Reason number three. We got to see more of Anna Dello Russo. Seriously now. And let me add the Russian fashion flock to the list. See Miroslava Duma, Elena Perminova.

While many may share a different perspective as to the significance or not of the above mentioned, this is only fair as perspective by nature is subjective. Reality is also subjective but lets not get too philosophical. But what can be stated in facts is that street style photographers slash bloggers of the likes of Tommy Ton as well as fashion bloggers at large, have changed the fashion spectrum and the fashion industry itself, while at the same time, since the rise and spread of bloggers a lot has been written, stated and argued. See the over-cited Circus of Fashion.
But there is beauty in what some people out there are doing for the fashion industry. Tommy Ton, Scott Schuman and the likes are fashion bloggers who have challenged and altered the direction of fashion.

So here's to another 5 of Tommy Ton's work.
