Girls Sleepover Party Made Easy

I hosted a sleepover birthday party for my oldest daughter per her request. I wanted the group to be small, but it was difficult as kids tend to belong to clicks and if you invite just one or two from a group, that would cause some issues. My rule for picking guests was that my daughter had to have some kind of interaction with the friends outside of school by being invited to their birthday parties or play date at their places, etc. Otherwise, the list gets too long. There were a few kids I wish I could invite because I know the moms, but I had to draw a line because I already had 12 girls on the list who confirmed that they could come. I hate this aspect of organizing a party. I just hate to hear if someone’s feelings got hurt by not being included. It gets too hard to manage if you have too many kids when you host it at your place. It gets very expensive as well. I wish I could invite as many as possible so that I don’t have to worry about any hurt feelings!

The sleepover party was a lot of labor for me in some sense, but it did not feel as difficult as I thought that it would be. I personally think that having a sleepover birthday party for a 10-year-old is easier than having a day-time party for a 6-year-old just because younger kids require so many more activities for their attention span being so short. It was fun and easy to do activities with 9-year-olds. It was definitely worth the efforts to host a sleepover party for my daughter because she was very appreciative of my efforts and also it was sweet to see her get so excited to be with her friends.

☆ I recommend you put straws in the cups close to the time when guests will drink if the straws are made of paper like the ones I had. These stripe straws were paper straws, so I added them shortly before the Curaçao Blue Soda was offered to the kids. Thus, the earlier photos did not have the straws in.

I found the cute stripe paper straws at Cheap Jack on Hill Road, which is above Something Special (see information below). I saw the adorable stripe straws at Cheap Jack once, then I never did again. When you see something you like in Mumbai, grab them then. Otherwise, you might not be able to find them again.

HOW TO HAVE AN EASY SLEEPOVER PARTY FOR GIRLS

KEY FACTORS

1. Party on Friday to Saturday instead of Saturday to Sunday.
Why? Many kids have Saturday morning activities. Thus, you can convince kids go to bed at the time you would like them to go to bed. On Saturday morning many kids were picked up early by their parents to go to Saturday activities. It was easy for the kids to leave and it was easy for me as well.

2. Ask kids to bring their own sleeping bags
Tidying up in the morning is made easier.

3. Guests were 9 and 10 years old. They are mature enough to do so much by themselves.

TIME TABLE

6:00 Party begins: Photo Booth with Props
6:30 Dinner
7:00 Manicure Pedicure & Hair Makeover
7:30 PJ Fashion Show
8:00 Cake, Dessert & Play
8:30 Cleanup & Make bed with sleeping bags
8:45 Brushing Teeth
9:15 Movie Starts
10:45 Movie Finished
11:00 Lights Off

PREPARATION

1 MONTH BEFORE
Shop for party decoration, party props, plates, cups, silverware, etc.

2-3 WEEKS BEFORE
Send invitations to friends

1 WEEK BEFORE
Decorate your home
Place an order for cakes & cookies if needed (I ordered from TH Bakes)
Buy Party Favors

3 DAYS BEFORE
Pack party favors

1 DAY BEFORE
Buy desserts, bake (I didn’t…)

DAY OF THE PARTY
1. Prepare a table and place plates in the morning after breakfast. Put sticky tabs with items you’ll serve on them.
2. Buy doughnuts for breakfast for the following morning. I recommend doughnuts over pancakes or waffles because they are more manageable. Seeing how kids were the night before, I could imagine that kids would make our home very sticky if I served maple syrup. Plus, maple syrup in India is a hard-to-get commodity in India.

DINNER

I ordered simple cheese pizzas (better as there are vegetarians) to make it easy. I also served home-made chicken fingers & broccolis which were popular.

HELP

I hired one teenager girl to help me with manicure pedicure, which was a big help! She was also a judge for a pj fashion show. There were things that a teenager could say and was received better than if it was coming from me, a mom of a birthday girl. I was glad to have her. The girls were also able to help each other to do their hair and manicure pedicure which was a huge help!
