NP Set Eye Slicks Are Just Not As Slick As They Should Be

I’m a lazy bugger when it comes to eye makeup. Give me something as simple as possible to work with and I’ll be your best friend for life. Like Maybelline’s Colour Tattoo in Back to the Bronze. It’s so easy to use and I’ll actually cry if Maybelline ever decides to discontinue this gem.

When NP Set’s Eye Slicks landed on my desk, I thought “awesome, more easy peasy eye makeup for me!“. The Maybelline Colour Tattoo may be gorgeous but it does harden with use and I feel like I’m already needing to scrape at the product. Eyeshadow that come in tubes like the Eye Slicks should be a lot easier to use, right?

Unfortunately, that’s not the case. At least not with the Eye Slicks. I was disappointed at how they really didn’t do anything for me.

I was fooled when it came to the swatches. When I squeezed the tube and swiped the product on the back of my hand, the amount of pigmentation in the cream was fantastic. Just look at the swatch picture and you’ll know what I mean.

I have the Sahara on. Bet you can’t see it, right?

However, when I applied it on my lids, it was a whole different story. I couldn’t just swipe the eyeshadow cream on my lids with the slanted applicator and be done with it. It made sense to use my finger and pat the product onto the lids to make sure the eyeshadow was properly blended on my lids. The problem is, the more I tried the blend the product, the more I patted the product onto my lids, the cream shadow started to disappear. Even the Gibraltar, which is the darker of the two, ended up being a shadow of light grey on my lids. The intensity of what was originally swatched was gone. What is left on the lids is a tiny hint of colour (almost undetectable) and a whole lot of shimmer (you can’t miss it at all).

Having said that, the Sahara is actually not that bad. You can swipe the product directly on the eyelids with the slanted applicator, gently pat the product on and you’ll still see quite a pretty wash of champagne on the lids. Don’t blend the cream shadow by swiping your finger or brush left and right because you’ll end up with no colour on the lids.

I was thinking of using the Sahara as an eyeshadow base if I can’t use it on its own but that didn’t work well. It’s quite moist to the touch after application and a few hours later, the cream shadow creased badly.

I’d give the Eye Slicks a miss. It just didn’t deliver. I’ll stick to the regular eyeshadows by NP Set. At least those don’t disappoint.

What I like about it: Colours are beautiful (but only in swatches), easy to use without a fiddly applicator. Not expensive if they work better.

What I do not like about it: Creases on me quickly even with eyeshadow primer on, looks very rich and intense in swatches but disappears when blended, remains moist to the touch.
