OPI GelColour course review with Capital Hair and Beauty

Yesterday I went along to an OPI GelColour course at Capital Hair and Beauty in Norwich. I’ve always been a nail biter, which means I’ve never really paid much attention to my nails other than painting them every once in a while. I agreed to go on this course and knew I’d have someone painting my nails, I’d have to grow them! I’ve never had such motivation and now my nails look pretty damn good.

My mum joined me too, she’d recently bought a gel nail kit and wanted to try the course. The first half of the day was the theory behind GelColour, how it works and how to apply it. I’ve had a terrible week and it took me a little while to get into the swing of things but I soon remembered how much I love learning. I took notes, watched the demonstration closely and soon began to feel nervous that I’d have to do this myself.

The good thing about the whole course and the demonstration was that it was for beginners. They say a manicure qualification is helpful but I feel I learnt a lot about filing, cuticles and how to paint a nail. If anything, it’s improved how I paint my own nails no end!

So proud of how that French manicure came out!

The GelColour system works by preparing the nails then applying a base coat. You then leave this to cure under an LED lamp for 30 seconds. From there you can choose whether to do a French manicure or a solid colour. For every coat of colour you have to cure for 30 seconds then repeat until you get the desired effect. Lastly you add a top coat then cure for a final 30 seconds.

Painting mum’s nails was so much fun. I experimented with different colours, those dark ones are so hard to get on evenly. I’ve never tried a French manicure before but I’m really pleased with how that came out.

There are a lot of steps to the whole process but once you get into the swing of things, it’s really enjoyable. I definitely need to speed up when it come to the painting part but with a bit of practice, I think this might be something I’m good at.

The course was fun, well taught and I now have a certificate that says I can now charge people to provide this service!

Thank you to Capital Hair and Beauty and OPI for having me along on this course.

Have you ever done anything like this? Let me know in the comments.
