NOTD: Electric Chapel - Neon Stud "Skittlette"

On Tuesday I was wondering what the hell I should do to my nails. I knew I would use studs but how? I browsed some gorgeous stud manicures from the inspiration folder. I originally wanted to do some design with many different colors but I just couldn't pinpoint what I truly wanted. Eventually I decided to swing it and go with the flow.... and I'm glad I did!

The only thing planned in my manicure was the neon green studs I received from Born Pretty Store which I wanted to play with right away. I must say... These look more like highlighter yellow to me than green, but in this lighting... We know how careless companies are when naming their products. I'm willing to forgive misleading name... Just this once. After all... When in a shade, these do look more green than this. ;)

I finally settled in using China Glaze Liquid Leather as my base to make the neon studs really pop. I drew my inspiration from Lady Gaga's song "Electric Chapel", which seemed suitable for the neon and black. I hit the song on repeat and went with the flow what comes to the stud placement.

I must admit I was a bit skeptical on how the stud would hold on the nails. This was my first experience playing with any kind of studs. I was surprised of the "hollow" backside of the stud but now that I think of it... The hollowness allows the polish to "fill" the stud and make it more secure.

I didn't use any glue on the designs. Instead of nail glue I made one nail at the time. I painted one coat of black on all nails, then painted 2nd coat on one nail at the time, sticking the studs to the wet polish. I didn't press them hard at this point, so I had some time to fiddle with the lines and making them straight. Once I was satisfied with the placing, I pressed the studs into the polish to make them secure, then applied Seche Vite around the studs, not over them, to test how they would hold.

I also managed to get black polish on the studs few times. This is where I threw my carefulness out of the window and took my clean up brush and some nail polish remover and wiped the polish smudges off the studs. I must say I was positively surprised the

Today I had some rough work to do at school that included filing and cutting metal. Obviously few of the studs came off, especially on the ring and middle finger where the design went up to the tip, which I expected to happen. The hold when applied with regular nail polish isn't anything amazing, about the basic longevity what comes to 3D decoration such as rhinestones.

Overall I couldn't be more satisfied with the studs, they are bright, bold, in your face and totally awesome especially for the summer time! Not to mention I have so so so many ideas how to use these again. ;)
