LuLuLun Japan’s Best Selling Face Mask Review and Photos

Walking into a “drugstore” in Japan for an Australian is a little like walking into Sephora in the States, only in a completely different language. You’re overwhelmed with all the choices, and you know some damage is going to happen… to your wallet

Damage was done and I walked out with a small suitcase filled with face masks. However one that caught my attention was LuLuLun, considered Japan’s number 1 selling face mask.

When you look at the price, it’s clear why this face mask is so popular. At only around $40AUD, I can buy a small compact box of 42 masks. For about $5-7AUD I could buy a very travel friendly version that contains 7 masks. When you think about value for money for most people, this is pretty good. It comes in three versions (though I think a fourth may have just come out), one for basic moisture, more one high moisture and one for brightening.

But if we’re focusing just on the mask itself, I’ve used better. There isn’t a ton of “serum” with each mask, which explains why the box recommends you only wear it for 10-15 mins as opposed to the typical 20-30mins. The cloth itself is very thin and easy to rip if you aren’t careful but what I found most annoying is how the mask didn’t contouring to my face very well. I’ve been through many many face masks in my time, this is certainly one of the more poorly made ones that could not adaquaently cover my face (eyes to face apparent, mouth too low etc), which meant that the fabric wasn’t making constant contact with all parts of my face at all times, essentially defeating the purpose of the mask. I wish they included a couple of slits in the cloth so I could do the contouring myself

The results were nice, but nothing close to many masks I’ve tried in the past that have made an actual difference to my skin. It’s a cheap mask, and you get what you pay for. It didn’t leave me with any adverse reactions, but personally I’d rather pay more for a mask that I know will give me real results.
