September 8th: Kit Kat Chunky Double Caramel

After years of having to put up with the woeful effort of the current UK Kit Kat Chunky Caramel bar (See HERE) us Brits are now finally being treated to an all new variation of the flavour. With great excitement we read a few weeks ago that Nestle were now releasing a Kit Kat Chunky Double Caramel bar and our hopes were that we were going to get a Caramel Chunky that could match up to the awesomeness of the current Aussie version (See HERE). Take a look below to see what we made of it.

The new bar comes in 42.0g size and is split into two different blocks. Described as a 'crispy wafer finger in 2 chunks topped with contrasting fillings: 1 smooth caramel & 1 crunchy side with caramel pieces, both topped with milk chocolate'. This sounded an intriguing place to go and were delighted to see the very cool looking wrapper displaying the different types of filling clearly to set expectations.

Breaking the blocks apart at the centre it was not until each piece was bitten into that we could tell which side had which filling. We first took the 'crunchy side' and we liked the way it lived up to it's billing with it's extra crunchy texture the the small fragments of hard caramel. Taste wise it generated a creamier buttery caramel taste, it was very pleasant to begin with but some of the team thought it was a little on the sweet side. The opposite 'smooth side' was the one we were all looking forward to. The very fluid inner filling was just about right in terms of sweetness intensity and it's toffee, buttery flavours were welcomed by all. It was by far the more enjoyed of the two fillings.

Overall we want to praise Nestle here for at the very least making a far better caramel bar than the one currently available. The new Kit Kat Chunky Double Caramel is a far better bar than the original. The crunchy filling may be a little sweet for some but it does a least bring a little excitement to the party with it's extra textural elements. It has to be said the smooth side was very tasty. It was as generously portioned as the caramel in the Aussie version but that would be nit picking. This new bar is certainly worth a try for all Kit Kat Chunky fans.
