Tieks Review: Worth the Hype?

Tieks. They’re said to be the Ultimate Ballet Flat. “The Ballet Flat Reinvented”. The Perfect Travel Shoe. Heck, even Oprah loves them. Do Tieks really live up to the hype? Or, are they just another ballet flat with a hefty price tag? Today we’re sharing an exclusive Tieks review to tell you what we really think of the latest trend in footwear. Read on to see what we’ve discovered…

Tieks Review

First things first: what are Tieks? Tieks by Gavrieli are ballet flats that are foldable, designed to fit into your purse and be worn after your feet are sore from heels. Or, in my case, everyday, since I love me some flats.

The Review

THE COLORS

Tieks come in a HUGE variety of colors. When I say a huge variety, I mean you’ll probably have to call your best friend or consult your husband (like I did) and have them help you choose. I was between the Pink Ballerina, Cobalt Blue, Chocolate Brown, and Silver Lake. I tell you, there are SO many choices.

I love the ballerina pink, and the cobalt blue, but I wanted a pair that would be neutral to go with more outfits. I loved the chocolate brown, but the silver lake Tieks (made with vegan fabric!) were really calling my name. So I picked them.

THE PRODUCT

Tieks deliver FREAKY FAST. I ordered them from California and I received them in three short days (Michigan). Opening a box of Tieks is an experience in itself. First, you’ll find a darling signature Tieks blue box, which is wrapped in a cheerful fabric flower band with a rhinestone detail. And, might I add, there’s a HANDWRITTEN note. Tieks pretty much has presentation on point.

THE FIT

How do they fit? Before ordering, I checked out the website to see what sizing is recommended. It says that if you’re normally a whole size, order the same size in Tieks. I read on other blogs that if you’re a half size, you might want to order up (Tieks doesn’t offer half sizes) but I did read that when doing so, the larger size was not a very good fit. So, this might be a shoe best for whole-sized feet. When I put them on my feet, they fit a bit snug… but seemingly in all the right places. It feels like with a little more wear, they’ll fit like a glove. Unlike any other flat I’ve tried on, Tieks are snug but that don’t hurt on the sides or the heel. I can see these being quite a comfy pair of everyday shoes!

THE PRICE

Tieks are unique for a few reasons (the signature blue soles, fold-ability, millions of colors) but price is another that sets it apart from other ballet flats. If you’re used to buying a cheap pair of ballet flats (I’m talking, $20-$40) you’ll just wear until they tear, the price tag here is a bit different: Tieks run about $175. This was a shock for me, since I’ve never paid this much for a pair of flats. However, after seeing these in person, they do seem different: Tieks seem to offer more of a solid bottom (and you gotta love that signature Tieks blue sole). Also, the stitching is perfect. I can’t say how they match up in terms of wear and tear, since I just started wearing them; however, if I had to guess, I believe they’ll outlive my other ballet flats over time. PLUS, other ballet flats don’t fold like these do. Seriously, they are amazingly compact and perfect for traveling or tossing in your purse.

Tieks Review: Conclusion

So, what’s my overall opinion of Tieks? I give ‘em a thumbs up! Tieks are a go. I really, really love mine and they’re super comfortable. I can’t wait to wear them daily in the spring and toss them in my bag for special occasions (when my heels start to hurt). They may cost more than other flats, but if you want a pair that will go the extra mile (and are totally portable) then it’s worth it. I do, however, forsee one big issue: these are addicting. With so many colors and patterns to choose from, you’ll find yourself eyeing the next pair for your collection. I’ve got my eye on Ballerina pink. :)
