Hot Topic: Street Style
Street Style as a digital phenomenon isn’t going anywhere. You’re welcome for the obvious. I was asked to weigh in on the circus for a piece by Courtney Shea for The Globe & Mail (leading Canadian national paper) which went live last weekend. I wrote first hand about my experience as a street style photographer two years ago for another Canadian national paper The National Post, after I’d finished my first full fashion month circuit.
The beauty and the beast of street style: it’s contrivance and vanity. You can argue both sides convincingly enough but the fact remains it’s not going anywhere. Each season varies slightly, until there is a seismic fashion shift. Street Style mimics the Fashion industry, where new is old in ten minutes yet we all carry a soft spot for eccentrics because to a certain degree you must be one to play in this game.
