BATHROOM UPDATE {little wood shelf & dots}

Although our bathroom project was completed last December {last update here}, we still have a few things to add to the space. One of those things was a shelf over the toilet. The bathroom is all white with chrome fixtures, and the shower curtain is white with a few black stripes. I like the crisp, clean feel of the space, but it definitely needed some other color or texture to soften up the room. We decided to continue with the black and white theme, but also add in a natural wood element. I introduce...our shelf.

After many hours online and trips to local hardware stores, we decided these brackets from West Elm would compliment the black lines in the shower curtain. We could have purchased the rustic wood shelf from West Elm along with them, but instead we cut up a piece of an existing pine board we had in our shed, spayed it with a clear coat and left the rough edges.

I've been seeing a lot of black & white dotted/spotted paintings and wallpaper lately so I decided to create a little piece myself. The look is playful, elegant, chic and dramatic all at the same time. My painting took an episode of Property Brothers to complete, and I used an existing canvas I had laying around the house. Not my most impressive painting, but for a quick piece of bathroom art it's not bad, especially paired with freshly cut flowers and one of my favorite little statues {Egyptian Bast} given to me 12 years ago from my best friend's mother.

The opposite wall has remained empty over the last 6 months as well, so we decided to hang a black and white picture of our Chihuahua/Pomeranian licking his chops after a delicious meal...appropriate for the bathroom right?

Here are a few of the images that inspired my spotted painting...
