StyleOnTheCouch Loves: Etre AW12

I spent some time by the sea in England this weekend, dressing accordingly for the cold temperatures and breezy gusts of wind along the coastline. I was recently gifted a pair of gloves by Etre, whose autumn winter collection for 2012 embodies traditional and characterful British workwear, that I wore during my walk along the beach.

The brand is a lovely collection of utilitarian style apparel – fishermen’s sweaters, jackets and accessories (scarves, hats and bags) perfect for the UK winter. I’m just recovering from the winter lurgi so being wrapped up yesterday was essential!

Etre’s touchy gloves are just the thing for a social media addict like myself. With thumb and index finger exposed they help me keep warm whilst I talk, type and text to my heart’s content*. Available in a range of colours and designs, these make a great stocking filler in the run up to Christmas.

Etre’s apparel is designed to be unisex. Their Guernsey sweater is my favourite piece from the collection, in navy blue and ecru stripes. Each piece has an interesting history behind it; this sweater is knitted by a small company from the Bailiwick of Guernsey and stays true to the woven nautical symbolism of the classic Guernsey pattern. The rib at the top of the sleeve represents the rope ladder found in sailing ships’ rigging; the raised seam across the shoulder, a rope; while the garter stitch panel symbolises waves breaking on the shore. Howzat for heritage!

You can buy Etre from their online shop. You can also find them at YMC and Selfridges.

*Admittedly not everyone in my party was happy about this fact lol.
