A Body Scrub So Natural You Could Eat It (And How To Make Your Own)

Using a great body scrub once a week, especially in the summer months, can help to remove dead and dull skin from the surface of limbs and ensure they're tip top and ready for the beach. A gentle massaging motion over the skin can help soften and smooth limbs, as well as increasing blood circulation, leaving the perfect base for applying tan and even ensuring moisturisers are more effective. Body scrubs are ten a penny, but finding a really great one that helps to polish skin without feeling overly abrasive can be a challenge. S.W. Basics is an all-natural, sustainable skincare brand that pride themselves on creating products that are naturally luxurious and incredibly effective. The range uses only the purest ingredients that are either certified organic, Fair Trade, or soured from family run farms - ensuring the best quality and removing the need for irritants such as parabens, preservatives and fragrances from being included.

This body scrub is made with only three ingredients: organic demerara sugar, organic extra-virgin coconut oil and organic shredded coconut. The result is a formula that looks, feels and smells incredible, as well as being so natural that you could actually eat it. The chunky sugar helps to slough away dead skin effectively without rubbing the surface raw, the sugar dissolving gradually to let the coconut oil hydrate and sooth skin. You need only a little bit to work each limb, which is a good job considering it'll set you back £22.00 for the pot above! Although I love the concept and I love the end result, I can't help but think it's incredibly overpriced for a little tub of ingredients you could pick up from a health food shop.

If you can't justify the price tag but love the idea, why not try creating your own at home? Simply mix brown sugar in a bowl with some melted coconut oil (heated in a saucepan,) add in some shredded coconut or fruit peel for texture and mix thoroughly. Use an old jam jar or glass candle holder to store the scrub, ensuring it's covered and refrigerated between uses to elongate its shelf life. It's incredibly quick, easy and cheap to do and would make fabulous gifts for loved ones; you can pick up decorative ribbons and tags from any craft shop to label your concoctions, sealing them with love. You can easily pick up the ingredients from a health food shop for less than a tenner, providing enough to make a good few tubs. Easy peasy and a great way to spend your weekend!

Would you try creating your own body scrubs at home?

The S.W.BASICS Body Scrub is available online, priced £22.00 for a 178ml tub.
