Train Makeup: The Best Products To Apply On The Go

Following my post discussing applying makeup on public transport, it seems that 75% of you are guilty of doing it yourselves and 99% don't see a problem with it at all. It saves time, gives you a few minutes more in bed and ensures you're looking fresh by the time you get to the office! At the request of many who embrace 'train makeup', I've put together an edit of the products I think would be best suited to a crammed and rickety carriage - there's no need for brushes, no messy containers or palettes to navigate, just simple to use products that can be applied straight from the packaging and blended where necessary with your finger. The key is to keep everything self-contained, small enough to slip into your bag and involve as few runny formulas as possible; all you need to do is ensure you apply your foundation or base before you leave and add a touch of mascara to finish! Here are six products perfect for applying on the go...

1. Nude Stix Concealer Pencil (£24.00)
Exclusively available in Space NK, this new brand offers simple makeup solutions and formulas that really work. I love the fact this creamy concealer is in a pencil format, making it great for applying while on the move. Just swipe it under the eye area to brighten dark circles, gently blending the colour in with your finger. It's quite a 'dry' formula, without being cakey, meaning there's no mess.

2. Benefit They're Real Push-Up Liner (£18.50)
Although I have a love/hate relationship with this liner (it's great for a simple line but terrible for creating cat flicks,) it's great for applying on the tube. The texture is gel-like and dries instantly, leaving a strong colour result along the lash line that lasts all day long. The great thing is that it's practically impossible to apply this in a wonky fashion, ensuring it's great for jerky train journeys.

3. Clinique Chubby Stick For Eyes (£17.00)
I'm a huge fan of the original Chubby Stick formula and these eye sticks are just as handy. Although the colour range is quite limited, for daily wear and work-appropriate colours they're fab; I'm currently loving this khaki shade which offers a hint of colour without being too much. Just swipe across the lid and buff into skin using a finger - you can even blend the colour to create a subtle smokey eye.

4. Benefit Gimme Brow (£17.50)
My current favourite brow product, this provides a fuller brow by adding tiny fibres to existing hairs. All you have to do is brush it on and you've perfect eyebrows in a jiffy; the formula even stays put on bare skin, allowing you to create a natural looking brow in seconds. You don't even need a brush, so it's a definite winner when it comes to applying in public.

5. Benefit Posie Tint Cheek Stain (£24.50)
Powder blushers can be a nuisance when you're squished between a couple of commuters, so cream and liquid colours are much more convenient. I love Benefit's lip and cheek stain collection, but Posie Tint provides a really natural flush that you can easily blend into your base with your index finger. This is also great for touching up throughout the day, as the super lightweight formula doesn't cake or streak.

6. No7 Instant Radiance Highlighter (£9.95)
Like the Chubby Stick collection, this chunky crayon is great for adding a touch of radiance without the need for brushes. It's mess free, easy to apply and will add a glow to skin - especially at 8am when you need it most. For a natural finish, apply on the top of cheekbones and under the brow to ensure you're looking fresh faced and ready for the day ahead.
