The Solid Sunblock: Lush Launch A Solid Sunscreen Wash

Although I'm sitting here with the heating on, a warm cup of coffee on the go and the rain petering down outside my window, we're still (believe it or not) in the middle of summer. It may not seem like August in the UK right now, but many of you may still be lucky enough to have a summer holiday to look forward to and need essential sun protection. It's even more important for us Brits to be prepared when it comes to sun exposure, as we see so little of it throughout the year and get overexcited when it does grace us with its presence. Although there are thousands of sunscreens and SPFs available on the high street, Lush have (in their usual quirky way) their own take on staying protected with 'The Sunblock' - a solid sunscreen wash that can be applied in the shower.

The block comes in three segments which can be broken off and used over the body. Handily, these thirds are the exact amount you need to cover your body and ensure it's protected; so many mishaps and burns occur as a result of being ill prepared and applying only a small proportion of SPF required to protect the skin adequately. I love that Lush have made the process super easy and even made the block hand-luggage appropriate if you're just popping away for a long weekend.

The sunscreen itself melts into the skin when massaged with a small amount of water, easily covering limbs and getting into all the right areas with ease. Once you've applied the block you can gently wash away any excess and dab skin lightly with a clean towel, leaving you theoretically protected and ready to face the day. Although it's not overtly sticky, there's definitely a thin residue left on the skin that means this isn't a product you'd use day-to-day - it's perfect for using before you hit the beach or pool, when you're not too fussed about having totally undetectable sunscreen.

At £8.95 for a bar (making it approx £3.00 an application,) this isn't a sunscreen for the whole family. It's definitely a treat if you're having a weekend away somewhere hot, are limited in terms of lotions and potions on the plane, want to make applying sunscreen more fun for little ones or simply love a bit of Lush. I love the concept and I'm sure it'll be adopted by other brands come summer 2015; I'm amazed Nivea haven't launched their own following on from the success of their in-shower moisturiser and after-sun. Although you do have to re-apply sunscreen every few hours over the top to remain protected, it's a great little block to pop in your bag this summer.

The Lush 'Sunblock' is priced £8.95 and available online/in stores nationwide.
