Most Reached for Face Brushes

I have accumulated a lot of brushes over the past 4 years, many have been bought by me and I’m also fortunate that a few have been sent to me for reviewing purposes.

I love experimenting with them; because it isn’t simply a question of whether a brush is good or not. Some brushes are great with particular types of products and sub-par or terrible with others.

In this post, I’m going to share 7 of my most reach for brushes and which products I like to use them with. Take all of this with a grain of salt; as these are just methods that have worked for me.

Most Reached for Face Makeup Brushes

Sedona Lace Tulip Contour FB 03

This brush is a part of the Vortex brush collection, but it is also sold separately at an affordable price. I like the shape and feel of this brush for applying loose setting powder or pressed powders. It’s a large brush with soft and dense natural bristles that are tapered.

However, this brush is not perfect, it was much more tapered when I first received it, but after its first wash, the tip became more round. Also worth mentioning, the ferrule has loosened over time.

The Sonia Kashuk Domed Blusher Brush is a recent addition to my collection. When I wanted to buy this brush, I made several tips to Target because it was often sold out. The bristles are soft and dome shaped. They make applying blush to the apples of the cheeks a breeze.

Lancôme Cheek & Contour Brush #25

While I’m not a big fan of the smaller end of this duo brush, I am fond of the oval-shaped side of the brush. It’s perfect for more precise blush application and blending the edge between blush and contour. I also like that it is an oval and paddle shaped brush because it washes and dries more quickly that other blush brushes. Find this brush here.

Real Techniques Multi Task Brush – Travel Essentials Set

This brush was designed for the application of powder, blush, and bronzer. I have used it most with powder and bronzer, since I prefer smaller brushes for blush. The Multi Task Brush also works well to defuse harsh edges or blend products that have been over applied. Find the Travel Essentials Set here.

Real Techniques Buffing Brush – Core Collection

The Buffing Brush is intended for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation. However, I used this with all sorts of products; loose and pressed powder, cream and liquid products. See the Core Collection review here.

I have often used this for airbrushed looking application of liquid or cream foundation. It’s absolutely remarkable with liquid and cream products! I really want to try the Expert Face brush, because I’ve heard that is amazing for foundation.

Real Techniques Contour Brush – Core Collection

The Contour brush is intended for the application of highlighter or contour products. It works wonderfully with powder, cream and liquid products because of its synthetic bristles. Due to its small and tapered shape, this in also a wonderful brush for applying under eye concealer or setting it with a powder. Find the Core Collection Set here.

Make Up For Ever 132 Powder Flat Kabuki

The last brush I’m going to mention is from the MUFE Artisan Brush Collection (reviewed here), which features a range of high quality synthetic fibre brushes. The 132 Powder Flat Kabuki is a flat, rounded brush meant for sculpting the face.

I like using this brush for applying a light hand of bronzer or a highlighter. It also works well at dusting off excess powder, because it keeps the rest of my make intact while removing excess fall out. Find the 132 Powder Flat Kabuki brush here.
