Insane Clown Posse
When I was young, I used to have a deathly fear of clowns.
Honestly, they still creep me out.
When I came across these photos of French clowns from the 1920′s, my first instinct was to slam my computer screen shut lest endure insanely creepy visions. Yes, I’m 24 years old.
All embarrassing confessions aside, these photos are strangely artistic and lighthearted. I feel like clowns back in the day were friendlier beings – like mimes – not dramatized Hollywood horror figures like “Pennywise the Dancing Clown” from IT, The Joker from Batman or that little kid’s toy from The Poltergeist (scariest two and a half minutes of my life).
The makeup, the styling, the composition, the ridiculous expressions – I can’t stop looking at these photos and I think I need them on my wall. And I think I could stomach a circus performance with some semi-chic Parisian clowns, no?
