SYNOPSIS What would you do if your dreams were more than just dreams? When you knew in the depths of your soul that you were unlike the rest?
For seventeen-year-old Dahlia Winters, this is her truth. Her coping mechanism is to simply forget and deny the strangeness that is her life. Orphaned, her past remains a mystery. Now
residing with a foster family, she finally feels normal--or attempts to. Yet, dreams continue to torment her. Not only consumed by visions of miraculously healing wounds, but of a lust for something she should never naturally crave. Then a green-eyed stranger enters her life echoing her inner thoughts and voicing warnings about

others wanting to harm her. He knows things about her that no one should possibly know, and he
awakens her in ways she never expected.
This leads Dahlia to discover who she really is, for she is more than just human. With this
newfound knowledge, and the elements suddenly fighting against her, she finds it hard to trust
anyone. And as she finally awakens and comes to grips with the power she possesses, she fights
to stay alive.
Before the world, as she knows it, ceases to exist.
My Review
First I have to say that I love the cover, but I didn't picture Dahlia looking like that at all. In the book she is in jeans and t-shirts, covering her beauty. So, the cover felt to me like it didn't go with the story, but was very pretty nonetheless. As far as the book, I was captivated with it from the beginning, since it starts off with her at the edge of the woods and her telling us about her dreams (or nightmares) right away. Dahlia keeps going in and out of the foster system and finally ends up in a good home for the first time when she's 17. She thinks things will be normal, since the family actually begins to care for her and chip at her tough demeanor, but boy is she wrong. She doesn't understand why, but she starts to feel like she is being watched, starts to crave blood, thinks she hears people speaking to her mind, and has dreams about healing animals with her blood. Her way of getting through it? Ignoring it, just like she's always done when things got complicated. Except, a guy with green eyes comes into the picture and she can't ignore the things happening around her anymore, especially when he tells her that her life is in danger.
This book dives into the supernatural in a way I hadn't heard before, it mixes the vampire with the angel thing really well, and her character, though tough at first, is really sweet and wants to be loved and cared for, just like anyone else. This book was slow at the beginning and picked up more towards the latter half of the book. Of course, the whole book was slower paced than many I've read, but you expect that from book 1 on any series. I really enjoyed the chemistry between her and green eyes and (since I don't want to give spoilers) the story line and ending. I give this book 4 stars, because it was slower paced and I enjoy a faster paced book, but other than that, I really liked it and would recommend that you read it. It was a very good start to the series, I can't wait to read the next book!
