Kat Von D L’Ecole des Femmes Studded Kiss Lipstick ($21.00 for 0.10 oz.) is described as a “matte bright coral pink.” It’s a pink-coral with warm undertones and an ultra matte finish. Marc Jacobs Beauty Wham (604) (P, $28.00) is pinker, less matte. Bite Beauty Crush (P, $28.00) is brighter, less matte. Marc Jacobs Beauty Shout (138) (LE, $30.00) is darker, pinker, less matte. Hourglass Muse (P, $28.00) is more orange. Make Up For Ever #37 (P, $19.00) is darker, pinker, less matte. See comparison swatches / view dupes.
This performed a lot better than Coven, luckily. The consistency was slightly creamier, so it didn’t tug or drag quite as much on the lips, but it doesn’t just glide over the lips smoothly. The color, however, did apply evenly overall. It took six and a half hours before the color started to have any visible signs of breaking down, and after eight hours of wear, there was slight fading along the center of the lips and some of the color had pulled into lip lines. This particular shade wasn’t tacky, so by pressing and rubbing lips together, I was able to ease most of the color back into place so that it was still wearable for another two hours. It wasn’t drying over time, and it doesn’t feel too clingy (it feels less clingy than you’d expect given the matte quality). If you have drier lips that have flakes/cracks, the formula can catch on them. It is more forgiving than I expected, though. In general, I think those that are really after long-wearing, ultra-matte lip color, it may still be a very interesting formula. For someone who doesn’t mind reapplication and prefers to have a really comfortable-to-wear formula on, this might not be the one.
