Gobbling Goose down my Gullet....Bavaria, not just Beer, Bratwurst & Sauerkraut

After spending two months in Munich and Bavaria, I found that there was more to Bavarian cuisine than the famed Bratwurst and Sauerkraut. Although Bavarians and Germans are world renown for their love of feasting on hunks of pork and sausages; which by the way they have many kinds and bratwurst is just 1 of hundreds. It was a pleasant surprise to see items like fish, seafood, goose and duck regularly on menus. The most charming Bavarian Restaurant, Schönau am Königsee In the Beautiful Bavaria countryside, amongst the gorgeous scenery are some amazingly charming restaurants serving fantastic hearty and delicious dishes. Most of these restaurant prepare meals from local produce, so you know what you have will be fresh. Its comforting, depending on how you look at it to see your food running around happy. While driving through Southern Bavaria, we came in contact with some cute and curious Bavarian cows that came and checked us out, they were kind enough to let us pet them and in return we allowed them to lick our hands (yew!!!). I could not help but to call them Betsy cows (dont know why, that was the first thing that came to mind) Stunning Königsee (Kings Lake) in Bavaria Happy Bavarian Betsy cows The scenic Bavarian hills, where the cows are happy and inspiration for the Sound of Music One one the most memorable meals while I was in the Bavarian countryside was when I was in Schönau am Königsee (near the Austrian border where Hitlers HQ was). I had my first goose!!! a beautifully prepared goose served traditionally with a Knödel (a potato dumpling) and Rotkraut (a red and sweet version of Sauerkraut), this was washed down with a Dunkel Weisse beer (traditionally drunk with goose). Boy was I happy to have finally gobbled goose down my gullet, it is a magnificent meat, packed full of flavor and a textural delight with the crispy skin. On another occasion, I also had local Venison (probably hunted somewhere in the Bavarian hills nearby), this was served with beans, potatoes and a local berry similar to cranberry. The was very well prepared with the gaminess of the Venison balanced by the berries sweetness and acidity. A great goose Venison and berries
