How Do You Protect Your Computer?

This is a Fashionista Event and a promotional item was provided to me by Coupons.com. Hosts for this event are Still Blonde after all these Years and yours truly. #ProtectwithNorton

One of my side ‘jobs’ is volunteering at a youth leadership club. We hold weekly gatherings, run two week-long camps in the summer, and host a variety of cultural events throughout the year. As part of that I, and the girls I work with, are always on the computer – making flyers, sending out invites, doing research, etc…

And of course with that comes all the crazy downloads, spam emails and all the other things that can potentially shatter a computer system. One of the computers, thanks to a nasty virus received from some online gaming site, was nearly on its last leg. We had to bring in an IT expert to clean the whole thing out, delete programs, fix corrupted files. He had to work at it for several days. It was a mess and we worried that the problem would be permanent.

Once he finally fixed everything and got the computer back to working order, he gave me a whole list of dos and donts for computer use. Some things I knew, like don’t click those random links that get sent over via email from a ‘friend.’ But one of the major fixes he pushed was installing a Norton 360. I balked a little at the price – $89.99 for one year of protection is no small matter, especially for a non-profit group. But in the long run we knew it would be worth it and we jumped at the chance to protect our computers.

What I didn’t know at the time was that Coupons.com offers coupon codes for Norton by Symantec products, which would have taken that $89.99 price tag down to $49.99! What a discount, especially for something that is so crucial to maintaining a computer and having some peace of mind that what you create on there will still be fully functional when you return days or months later.

Have you had any computer drama because of a virus?? What protection system do you use?
