Obiqo – Natural Sea Kelp Skincare

In college a friend gave me a coconut-scented body butter. I loved the smell of the product but I hated the greasy residue it seemed to always leave behind. After that I swore off body butters, assuming they were all the same – thick, greasy, goop. But Obiqo recently sent me a body butter to try and I find I’m changing my tune about body butters and their benefits.

Obiqo is a luxurious sea-inspired skincare range that combines nutrient-rich sea kelp from New Zealand’s pristine waters and the powerful anti-oxidant properties of French organic sea lavender. Unlike the coconut-scented product I used in the past this barely has a scent. It made me feel fresh and clean, not like a Malibu-infused drink.

The body butter is thick and a little goes a long way, but it does not leave behind a greasy residue that makes you want to wash your hands. It blends smoothly and easily into your skin. (I did use it on my legs just after shaving and that irritated my skin a little. But the next day it was find again with no irritation.)

A key to Obiqo’s skincare line is New Zealand sea kelp, which is harvested under license and then blended with proprietary formulations of sweet herbs, natural flora extracts, essential oils and sea lavender to provide a rich sensory experience. All the marine extracts used in these products are derived from sustainable sources and the methods of extraction are natural, gentle and solvent-free. How great is that?

I also tried to facial scrub – which I loved even more than the body butter. Using it after my usual gentle face wash, this exfoliates nicely and left my skin feeling soft. I also noticed a decrease in the number of little blemishes that usually crop up from time to time. And while it exfoliates, it isn’t like rubbing sandpaper on your face – which is something I particularly hate about some facial scrubs.
