Pinch and a punch for the second day of the month.

This month’s calendar is coming to you a day late this month after we spent the weekend celebrating with a bit of bash for my birthday. Twas a great night and hope to be able to put some words and pictures together for you soon.

So here we are in June, which means the halfway point of 2014 is drawing near, which, quite frankly, is just crazy.

It is of course the official start of winter here in the south, summer in the north, so a splash of pink seemed in order.

Some fast facts about June.

• No months start on the same day of the week of June in common or leap years, just like its predecessor May.
• The Latin name for June is Junius. But there are differing theories for its origin ~ after the Roman goddess Juno or from the Latin word iuniores, meaning “younger ones” .
• It’s World Environment Day on June 5 and Bloomsday on June 16 in honour of James Joyce’s Ulyssess.
• And of course the solstice occurs from June 20 to June 21.
• June’s birthstones are pearl, alexandrite and moonstone and the birth flower is the rose.
