Drawing and sketching cartoons

Hola!

Continuing on with my 60 day challenge…..as i mentioned i am a bit behind in my cartoons because life sometimes gets in the way. But i feel greatly supported from the folks who read my blog or follow me on Facebook – all of the kind thoughts, vibes and words sent my Mom’s and my way after Mom’s accident are so appreciated.

Yesterday i wanted to create a cartoon about friends but did not want to introduce another human character so began practising drawing foxes…….which are pretty cute don’t you think?

While mentoring Meg yesterday who comes to me for art instruction/mentoring I mentioned that I needed to draw an animal but wasn’t into dogs or cats so much. I also mentioned that I really don’t draw animals very well. But i kept sketching until I came up with something that both Meg and I liked. I told her she was “magic” as i wasn’t able to come up with anything while on my own but as she was sitting next to me some of her fairy dust must have fallen my way . This happened while she was drawing a cute unicorn.

I was happy with how my little fox turned out in this cartoon. Great quote by the Beatles!

I’ve been a great admirer of Roald Dahl’s quotes and especially this one – but kept pondering over and over “how can you illustrate sunbeams coming out of someone’s face without it looking silly?”. For days I wondered and so finally yesterday i just sat down and began sketching. The above cartoon emerged! “If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely”. Feel free to pin this if it speaks to you! Or any of my cartoons for that matter.

Maya Angelou passed away a few days ago – she was a writer, artist, teacher and activist who inspired millions of people. In honour of her passing I wanted to illustrate one of her best loved quotes – “If you don’t like something change it. If you can’t change it change your attitude”. Again i pondered how does one illustrate this concept. Nothing came up until i began to draw……..it’s as if the pencil has it’s own intelligence

I was saddened to hear that Robert Genn passed away a couple of days ago. He was an amazing artist and writer. I’m very fortunate to have been mentored by him for several months. His generous spirit and wisdom will be dearly missed.

We are going to see Totem tomorrow – a Cirque du Soleil adventure so that should be loads of fun!

Enjoy your weekend!

Love, Violette xo
