Art Journaling with Faces

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a chance to look around my new virtual home!

Many years ago – maybe 7 or 8 I had a challenge on my blog called “Long necked ladies” (or something to that effect). So many of my readers were challenged when it came to drawing faces so i decided to create a simple face – like the one above which appeared in my book Journal Bliss I asked people to download the image and then to colour, collage or do whatever they liked to it to make it look like theirs. I was amazed at all of the wonderfully diverse images my readers created! From that point on I believe many of them had the courage to veer off and experiment on their own creating their own signature look!

Here are a couple more long necked ladies that appear in my book.

Now you see a number of art journalers who have come up with stencils you can buy to create your own faces. It’s easy enough to create your own template though of a simple face like my long necked lady and then by using a piece of graphite paper transfer it onto your own journal page. By varying the media you use, the hair you put on you can come up with radically different designs!

In this image i am adding dimension to the face using pencil crayon over top of Twinkling H2O’s. It’s a design from my Journal Bliss workshop. You can make your girl as detailed or as simple as you like. And of course like anything the more you practice the better you’ll get at it.

You can then create a page around your drawing or like i did here cut out the face and glue it to a painted background. The possibilities are endless.

I do hope you’ll experiment with drawing faces!

Love, Violette xo
