our first real Christmas tree

Truth be told I’m feeling a little behind on preparing for the holidays. We got our (very first!) real Christmas tree up in the new house and I was planning to finish decorating…then this past weekend I got the stomach flu. (Wow. It’s been a while since I’ve dealt with that, but let’s just say it put me out for 3 days.) Now I’m getting back into a routine and trying to eat normal foods again…oh, and find the energy to finish Christmas shopping and decorating! :)

As a result, so far it’s still just Christmas lights on our tree (which I secretly love), but that’s going to change soon and I can’t wait to finish making the house festive! (Here was our little apartment last year.) We don’t have much for decorations but of course that’s where creativity comes in, right?!

It’s funny how the smallest decisions can end up becoming overwhelming. I went to Target to get Christmas lights and as a first-timer (and now a homeowner), I probably stood there for ten minutes surveying all of the options. Well I did some research and in the end decided to get LED Christmas lights, and I’m so glad! They are super bright and did you know they save a ton of energy compared to normal Christmas lights? I wrote more about the decision over at The Neighborhood, so check it out if you’re light shopping!

This year marks so many milestones for us, it’s hard to believe. I still find it pretty surreal that we have a house and now a real Christmas tree to celebrate the season. It’s such a joy as life continues to unfold…

How are your holiday preparations coming along? Hope you’re having a happy (and healthy) month so far!
