How to Display a Collection

I love Antiques. That’s no surprise! I love all of them, from the grand, important French pieces to the smallest, little ones, from serious antiques, to silly, funny children’s toys. As you can imagine, we tend to have collections of antiques here at home. Here is how I display my smallest pieces so they don’t get lost, don’t clutter up every surface, and are a joy to look at.

I try to keep my collections of smaller pieces on display inside glass cabinets. This makes them a visual treat, instead of a dusting nightmare, and keeps our home from looking too cluttered. {Of all of them, these children’s toys and the antique sheep truly steal my heart each time.} I don’t really take my antiques too seriously, and I hope that you will be inspired to have a little fun in your home with your displays and your antiques.

I don’t mind mixing the truly precious and heirloom pieces with something just for fun! Our antique silver cabinet is sprinkled with seasonal vintage silver, like these little squirrels ~ salt and pepper shakers, not of great value, but much loved by our family during autumn dinners and Thanksgiving. Just because you are a collector, and love antiques, doesn’t mean everything has to be oh so serious, don’t you agree?

I found these tiny porcelain doll’s legs one year at an estate, and just knew they needed to be displayed with our collection of sterling antique children’s cups. They are silly, as are the sheep, but I love to mix up my pieces and instill a bit of fun on my silver shelves. They always make guests smile, they always make me smile. {and that’s what I think displays or collections should do!} I hope that you are inspired to put a little fun in your displays of your antique collections.
