Golden syrup flapjacks – Recipe

Do you like baking, but don’t believe in your ability to do so? When someone is not particularly confident in their capability to make treats, there are simpler recipes out there which are difficult to mess up. Cupcakes are normally on this list, but even that can be daunting.

Have you ever tried out flapjacks? There are several different recipes you could look up between Cheekybingo games, but the most basic recipe is the golden syrup flapjack. Simple to make, and tasty to eat. Try out the recipe below, and see how you get along with it.

Ingredients (uk/us)

250g/about 9 oz. porridge oats
125g/ about 9 tablespoons butter
125g/about .5 cups brown Sugar
2-3 tbsps golden syrup

Method

- Pre-heat the oven at 180 Celsius/350 Fahrenheit degrees.

- There are several different ways you can mix the ingredients for a flapjack together. You could place the ingredients into a bowl, and then use elbow grease to mix them all together. Or you could put the porridge oats, butter, brown sugar and golden syrup into a food processor, which you can then pulse until everything is mixed well. Be careful you don’t over mix it though, because it will be too smooth and lose the texture.

- Set the mixture aside and grease a baking tin with some butter. Then spoon the mixture into the tin and press it down with the back of the spoon. Make sure it reaches the corners so it is nice and flat. Then divide it into 12 squares, by scoring lines down it.

- Place the tin in the oven and leave to bake for 20 minutes, or until the top of the flapjacks have turned a golden brown. Allow to cool for a few moments, and then lift out of the tin, separating the 12 squares.

- Decorate them with chocolate chips or drizzles of melted chocolate if you like.
