Video: Shape Stamping

Hi there! I am taking a quick break from My Favorite Crafty Things series to share a video with you. This video shows a simple technique I like to call “shape stamping“… taking a basic outline shape and filling it in with small stamped images. This card is also part of a guest post over on the Newton’s Nook Blog.

“Shape stamping” is very simple and a great way to get more life from any small stamp images. I started by creating a triangle with a pencil. (You could instead trace any shape you want.) I then stamped the leaves from the Falling Into Autumn Stamp Set by Newton’s Nook inside the pencil lines using four green inks (Simon Says Stamp Green Leaf and Fern and Hero Arts Lime Green and Green Hills). A good tip for filling in a basic shape with stamped images is to start on the edges or the corners. I started at the top of the triangle and worked my way down and in.

I finished by gold heat embossing “blessings” from the same Newton’s Nook set… and added the “Christmas” from a stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I just love mixing sentiments from different stamp sets for a whole new look. Another great way to stretch your stamps!

Oh – and check out that twine. It is actually white twine from American Crafts that I colored with a marker. Nice, huh? I also added Peacock Stickles to the tree and white dots on some of the leaves using my Uniball White Signo Pen.

Here’s a helpful tip: I adhered some fun foam under the stamped panel instead of foam adhesive. This gives me complete coverage and dimension and goes through the mail with ease.

I hope this inspires you to try some small image stamping inside a basic shape outline. I think a simple heart outline filled with tiny images could be fun, too.

NEWTON’S NOOK

I have always loved the look of Newton’s Nook stamps and am excited to be a guest on their blog today. They are having a big “Deck the Halls with Inky Paws” week – be sure to check it out HERE.
