CrossFit Alpha Strike. Home, at last.

Most of you who have been following my blog would probably know how CrossFit is such a big part of my life. (Okay, yeah, I know — even those who don’t follow my blog!) A lot of you who ask me about it and are interested in joining are also probably really confused about where I actually do CrossFit as it seems I keep endorsing one box after another.

The truth is, I go where my boyfriend A goes. Plain and simple. CrossFit has made both us stronger not just individually in the physical aspect of it but strongest as a couple. If I were to be really honest, CrossFit is what brought us back together during our roughest times. For that I owe it everything.

There are some who consider themselves Nomad CrossFitters. I felt that way for a while. I first started at CrossFit MNL in Libis where A started his CrossFit coaching profession. I then moved to CrossFit Insurrecto, which he built with his then partners and where he gave so much of himself of. Too much, in my opinion. Nonetheless, because of that, I believe we’ve forged the strongest ties — ones I think are actually as strong as the iron that bonds us and our goals together. We are now the Alphas of CrossFit Alpha Strike.

I would sound like I’m selling if I say we’ve got the best coaches or the best programming or the best whatever else like I now think I did in this post. If I have learned anything over the course of the last year, it’s that learning, progress, and passing them on is what makes someone better, closer to his best. What I do know for sure is that, now, I am with the realest (if that’s not even a word, I don’t care) and most passionate people I know. They are the ones who I trust my health, safety, and progress with. They are my ates, my kuyas, my little sisters, and little brothers (although they are so much bigger and macho-er than me.) Plus, I’d have to confess that I’ve been bugging A since forever that we should have a set of friends that we’re both actually friends with. I no longer have to ask for that.

I am picky when it comes to who I let teach me. Who am I to say this? Nobody. Precisely why I need a teacher who walks the talk and looks the part. Bakit ako papaturo sayo kung paano pagandahin katawan ko kung mas sexy ako sayo? Eh so kung may abs ka, marunong ka ba magturo? Street cred, please. Harsh as it may sound, it’s the reality and it applies to all fitness systems, not just CrossFit. I know I am not only speaking for myself.

Ang haba haba ng sinabi ko (shoutout to the Atenean in me!) eh ang gusto ko lang naman sabihin is… These people are who I put my whole trust in when it comes to fitness. Meet my coaches, my friends, my CrossFit Alpha Strike fambam:

From left to right,

Coach/Athlete/Doctor/Mr. 7.5% body fat/Mr. Eight Pack Gene — okay, you know who I constantly ask about nutrition now!

(special picture para maniwala kayo na may 8-pack siya! haha!)

Coach Angee who squats 300lbs at 135lbs body weight, is a powerlifting champion, master double under teacher, and my sinusumbungan!

Coach Ken who is a CrossFit Level 1 trainer, CF Gymnastics Trainer, and USA Weightlifting Level 1 trainer, future Architect like me, Coach A’s official little brother and righthand, and my personal coach who trains me practically everyday!

Coach Chino, CrossFit Level 1 trainer, whose body transformation left people in awe for months (actually, up to now), whose before-and-after pic was stolen and used by fake diet pill brands because of it’s awesomeness, and Coach A’s powerlifting champion!

Coach Jian, CrossFit Level 1 trainer, CF Gymnastics trainer, my pull-up coach, and the person who never fails to laugh at me every time I drink from the wrong water jug!

and last but not the least, Coach A who, although isn’t in the picture as he is currently coaching CrossFit abroad, is in the hearts of every Alpha! The most selfless coach there is. The person who I am forced to share with everyone else because it would be a shame if I didn’t. The author of my fitness program. The person who should take credit for how much strength I have garnered physically, emotionally, and every other -ally. I would also never forget to mention that this 150something-pound guy has a 500lb 1 rep max squat. (Obvious bang proud?)

Of course, would this post be complete without my very own progress photos??? Ako pa! I can’t help but laugh when I look back at my first post as an Insurrecto, mostly because of the "#selfie" progress photos. I never imagined how much my body can change in a span of one year! Currently, I am at 110 lbs, with I don’t know how much body fat as I am really not on a strict diet. I do strength and skill training focusing on powerlifting and olympic weightlifting 4 times a week and do WoDs 4 to 5 times a week. Okay, you can now make fun of my #MirrorSelfies:
