Instagram frustration...

Why is it so hard for some people to understand that images are not free. They are not yours to take without giving credit to that person.
Last Friday was Anzac Day. A day Aussies and Kiwis remember and pay our respects to the people who fought for our country. Specifically it's centred around those who fought in WW1 but these days I think we open it up to all of the amazing people who risk their lives for us. Amazing people.
On Friday Lucus and I put up a post on our Makes Two Instagram feed. We made a paper poppy and cut out the words "Lest We Forget" we wanted to do something simple to show our respect, tagged only with #anzacday and #lestweforget. To our surprise it was a HUGE hit on Instagram! Awesome right! Not really... Unfortunately we didn't get much of the credit. Many people used the image on their own Instagram feeds and that's great! I'm all for regramming but only ONE of those people actually told their followers it was our image. And it's a crazy cycle because when the good honest people did say "regrammed from..." they credited someone else, whoever they say post it, not us.
I felt really uneasy about this because it's such an emotional and meaningful topic but people were STEALING our photo, some getting way more likes than we even have followers and no mention of the work we put in. Many people I've told this story to say, well you should have put your logo on it. Sure that might have helped, but you shouldn't have to... Especially on Anzac day. It's not the topic you want to splash your brand all over. That wouldn't be very respectful...
I'm not naive, I know this is a very common story and you have to learn to let it go if you want to survive in this online world. I do know that but it still really fires me up!
I'm always so so careful to credit anyone who's project or image I feature on Crafted and it's NOT THAT HARD! If you like someones work you should WANT to tell everyone who created it...
I caught someone on instagram claiming a wedding set up was their own work from that weekend. I'd seen that image floating around pinterest for YEARS. Lucky someone who actually knew the original designer commented and put them in their place. I'm guessing their following decreased that day... I mean really, what is that saying about your business. If you lied about that job, what else are you lying about?? Would defiantly not be recommending them to anyone, ever.
Anyhoo, that's the end of my rant. I just had to get it out. Thanks for reading.
Any of you feel the same or am I just a crazy craft lady? ;)
