My interview with UX recruiter Joanne Weaver

My “mystery guest” interview has arrived with my good friend, Joanne Weaver. This is part one of a two part interview where we talk about careers in the User Experience field. Being my first video interview, I’d like to thank Joanne for being such a fun and easy going first guest. We did a couple of takes, due to some sound issues on the first one, she helped me with editing and has been very gracious about the choppy edits and occasional blips in this final version. But we had fun and hopefully there will be information here that people can use.

Here’s Part One with a guide on what you’re seeing (and links we refer to) below the video:

We talk about:

* What Joanne Weaver and Rebecca Levi do at The Joanne Weaver Group

* What they look for in a candidate in 2 parts:

logistical/logical side and emotional intuitive side.

* Portfolio:

Spec work vs Produced work

Piece meal samples vs a targeted presentation.

Joanne refers to an excellent article she wrote called How To Totally Rock Your UX Portfolio.

That’s all for Part 1. Stay tuned next week for Part 2 where we’ll talk about educational backgrounds, what happens after school and more.

If you’d like to find Joanne online, she’s working on a new site, but for now, go to: The Joanne Weaver Group.

Thanks for watching and if you know of anybody who is thinking about getting in to the UX field, please share this with them. If you have questions for Joanne or me, or have topics you’d like us to discuss, please comment below.
