Creative Tuesday ~ Make: DIY Flower Paper Party Hats

Whether you are throwing a birthday party or hosting a fun Valentine’s Day gathering, you can never go wrong with a pretty party hat for the occasion. I’ve found a way to make a simple party hat (you know, the plain ones you find in a package at the grocery store) extra special using colored tissue paper rolled into rosettes. This project is so simple your older children can even help!

All you will need to get started are these materials:

Party Hats (choose plain colors or cover them in Kraft paper tutorial for that can be found here)
Hot Glue Gun and Hot Glue Sticks Colored Tissue Paper (in any color) Cute Helpers (as in, your adorable children)

To get started, follow these instructions:

Step 1
Begin by folding one sheet of tissue paper in half and make a crease. Fold it in half one more time and make a crease on that fold. You now have folded your sheet into four pieces. Open and cut along the creases to form 4 rectangles.

Step 2

Take one of the rectangles of tissue paper and begin rolling into a tube shape (with the shorter sides in each hand so you make a longer roll).

Step 3 Roll the tube into a snail or rosette shape. I noticed my children’s rolls were a little looser so once they finished, I tightened them up a bit. You want tight rolls. At the end of your roll, use a little dab of hot glue to close and affix the end in place.
Step 4 Use any plain colored Party Hat or cover in Kraft paper using this tutorial. Using your Hot Glue Gun, begin gluing the rosettes around the bottom of your hat. Depending on how tightly or how loosely you’ve rolled your rosettes, you will need anywhere from 7- 10 to cover the bottom edge.
Step 5 Repeat, gluing more rosettes in a row above your bottom row. You can continue all the way to the top, or stop as I have and leave some hat showing.
Step 6 Once you finish gluing your rows of tissue rosettes, you can glue a few smaller ones to the top of the hat and if you want to replace the elastic string on your hat, you can glue some ribbon to inside each side of the hat. Now, your pretty hat is complete and you are ready for your stylish party!

Hats off to you, my friends and have a great celebration!

Thanks Caroline!
