Duck Tape Christmas Tree
I’m just about done decorating for the holidays, but I am not one to stop at just that. Holiday decor and projects are my absolute WEAKNESS. I believe that the best representation of a “homey” home can be found around the holidays and I delight in making our home feel more warm and magical each year.
Walmart and Duck Brand challenged me to create a holiday themed craft using Duck Tape. My head swarmed full of ideas and I wanted to make all.of.the.things. After taking a moment to regroup, I decided to make a Christmas tree inspired by the wooden trees being used in trendy porch decor.
For my frame, I used a foam board. I drew a tree using a straight edge and a star using a cookie cutter. I had to enlist the help of Greg for cutting. Cutting through foam board is no easy feat… good thing I decided not to create letters! Duct taping the tree was a breeze as was assembling the embellishments. I wound up sticking the tree on my spice cabinet, but for the sake of this post, I’m sharing how it looks with some of our living room decor. I’ll be painting those frames white and replacing our faux family when my prints arrive. Enough rambling, let’s get started!
Materials
Duck Tape (glitter red, glitter gold, gold, green, white)
Foam board (20×30 inches)
Pencil
Scissors & craft knife
Star stencil (cookie cutter)
Beaded garland
Glue gun
1 8×12 sheet of card stock
You can grab all of these materials at Walmart.
Instructions
Draw a tree on the foam board using a straight edge and star stencil. I was able to create two trees on one board.
Using a sharp pair of scissors, cut out the tree. Using a craft knife, cut out the star.
Tape the tree green and the stump gold. Tape the star glitter gold. Cut slits in between the angles to to wrap the tape around the angles. I created the ornaments by printing a circle template on to card stock and duct taping over the back of the paper.
Create ribbon by cutting red glitter Duck tape to desired length and width. Place them on top of the gold stump to resemble a present. Using a glue gun, attach beaded garland to the red glitter ribbon.
Create an ornament template by stenciling or printing a few circles (in different sizes) on to card stock. Position the white and gold tape on the back of the card stock (behind the circles). Cut out circles and tape them on to the tree. Tape the star to the top of the tree.
